Treadmill Weight Loss

Some people just have all the reasons why they cannot exercise. Some say they are too busy with work and family, some say they can't walk outside because of the weather, some say going to a gym costs a lot and some say they are not that athletic to do those fancy exercises. All these reasons will be nonsense with a treadmill.

Doing treadmill exercises can last for at least 30 minutes thus it won't be that troublesome to include it in your busy schedule. Treadmill exercises can be done inside the house so the weather can't interfere. When you have a treadmill, you wouldn't have to worry about paying every time you use the equipment. Since walking is something we do everyday, you don't need to be that athletic to use a treadmill.

We've been talking about treadmill but what is it really? A machine that essentially allows you to walk or jog "in place" is called a treadmill. By using this machine, you can maintain the pace of your stride easily and you can get the benefits of aerobic exercise without leaving your home.

Here are some of the advantages of treadmill:

  • few compare to treadmills when it comes to health benefits and burning calories, an essential part of losing weight and getting in shape
  • in one study, treadmills easily outpaced an exercise bicycle, a rowing machine and a cross-country skiing machine
  • treadmill allowed the individuals to burn up to 200 calories per hour more than the bicycle ergometer
  • as with all exercise, regular treadmill use increases endurance
  • average medium-intensity treadmill workout burned 700 calories per hour, compared to just 500 calories per hour on the exercise bike - the amount of muscle mass that is used in both exercises is the reason for the difference
  • users who would not run/walk outdoors (e.g. due to unfavourable weather conditions, uneven road surfaces, dangerous neighbourhoods or unwanted attention) may use an indoor treadmill
  • walking is an excellent form of exercise for people with certain health conditions, such as osteoporosis, hypertension and back pain
  • treadmills offer the benefit of reduced impact since all treadmills offer some sort of shock absorption
  • those of us who aren't crazy about going to a gym, the flexibility of a treadmill can be very exciting
  • treadmill adds consistency to your walking workout because many models allow you to maintain speed and intensity throughout your entire workout
  • walking 45 minutes five times a week can cut your chances of getting a flu or cold in half according to research conducted by the Harvard Medical School
  • users who do not wish to join a gym may use an indoor treadmill at home
  • walking has many benefits for pregnant women while some aerobic activities can be risky - hormonal changes caused by pregnancy can loosen ligaments; walking helps to tone muscles and strengthen joints that support a growing baby
  • exercising on a treadmill can reduce the strain to the ankles, knees and lower back of users
  • changing the MPH or elevating the grade are just two of the numerous features of treadmill
  • you will be able to keep tract of your workout because most models of treadmill have options to determine calories burned, time elapsed and distance traveled
  • users can do other things while exercising, such as watching television or reading

However there are disadvantages in using treadmills too, such as:

  • if the belt keeps slipping, it can make a loud grinding noise
  • after a period, many users find treadmills boring and lose interest
  • the cost of purchase and electricity to run the treadmill is significantly greater than running outside
  • takes up space in homes (disadvantage reduced by "folding treadmill" option)
  • the risk of cardiac arrest is significantly increased as with all forms of cardiovascular exercise; treadmills may further this risk, as indoor comforts, such as air conditioning, may cause a user to feel more comfortable and less likely to stop due to exhaustion
  • running on a treadmill is easier than it would otherwise be on an equal elevation grade outdoors because of the lack of wind resistance;
  • if not used properly, may cause personal injury
  • usually, ordinary treadmills, even the expensive models at gyms and clubs, are not able to tilt at the steep slopes used on medical treadmills for standardized stress tests
  • a runner may lose balance because of the strict pace imposed on runners, giving an unnatural feel to running
